The first half of my days have always been dedicated to selfcare; I very rarely start work before 2 pm.
As I type this, I have just come from my weekly acupuncture session, had my smoothie and am now about to take my afternoon nap as the sea breeze blows in.
We have been taught that the only way to survive is by becoming super productive and hyper-productive even when our spirit is tired and going through emotional trauma. We’ve been asked to give up so much of our mental and emotional health to systems that don’t give the same back to us.
I’ve seen people talk about how anger is not the answer and how Black people should respond with love to every act of hatred.
The issue with saying anger is wrong and love is the answer is that it assumes that humans are one dimensional - that a human being cannot feel deep anger and love at the same time.

We are going through a collective trauma with this pandemic. We're losing family and friends and most of us are grieving and feeling anxious and overwhelmed, we can't pretend that this is business as usual.
